Opening band: New American Shame
What a show! Ian seems to suffering from a summer cold and had a little trouble
but other than than that the guys really rocked!!! The addition of a rhythm
guitarist really helped fill in the sound.The addition of the second guitar
really freed Billy up and he is sounding better than ever!! Matt S. and Martyn
the bassist both confirmed that this will be the lineup that is scheduled to go
into the studio this Fall and the new record will hopefully be out in April 2000!!
The band really hit its groove with The Witch. Man oh man that song just rules!!
In The Clouds, The Phoenix and New York City were probably the
best. She Sells Sanctuary sounds soooo good with two guitars on stage
that was maybe the best version I have heard yet. Aside from a few bumps with
Ian's voice and a mildly predictable set list I couldn't imagine a better show.
I mean any night I get to shout "Peace Dog" at the top of my lungs is a good
night, make that a great night!!I just might have to call my travel agent about
2 tickets to L.A.

I've been a fan since '85 and this is the first time I've seen them live. I
gotta say, the HOB in New Orleans was PACKED and THE CULT blew the doors off.
Lots of crowd surfing and all around madness. I'm not a huge music fan in general,
but I guarantee you I will never miss an opportunity to see them live again. If
anyone knows where a live version (video or just audio) of the House of Blues
performance in New Orleans can be obtained please let me know. On another note,
Ian made some comments about really liking New Orleans (how it is so different
from all other American cities). It might have been your standard "mention the
city" to the crowd concert shit but it didn't seem so. I seriously hope they tour
again soon, cause man I'm pumped. Great show.

Where do I begin? Simply put, they MF'in rocked the joint! New American Shame
was an excellent opening band! Then it was time for phoenix to fly in and do damage!
It was loud and beautiful! They didn't play anything off of CULT, but I didn't mind
it a bit! But, somehow I feel they put on a better show last go around. Regardless,
I'm still illuminating with energy! One small bit of criticism for the audience thou, I
feel the moshing should be saved for the NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK reunion tour! LONG LIVE
IAN!!!!

This show out right rocked. I stood in the back by the bar so I could actually hear as
opposed to being blasted by Billy. As good as they sounded, the show seemed short - almost
every song was played as if it was an edit version! New York City was really short.
However, In The Clouds was just a complete onslaught. The Witch was more laid
back than the record, although it was really messy. It lacked the simplicity of the record,
for Billy was going crazy. Some songs had no dynamics, something The Cult are not known for,
but it's just rock'n'roll for you. Sun King had the place screaming the chorus, as
did Sweet Soul Sister, Peace Dog and Wild Flower. Why nothing was played
from Dreamtime, Ceremony or The Cult was obvious - they were re-establishing their fan base,
and as Billy said when I talked with him after the show, they were getting back to playing a
basic show for this tour. It's obvious to me that they wanted a simple set list - which makes
it easier for the crowd - hence no Ceremony and The Cult. Pure Cult indeed.
