Viper Room, Hollywood, California

This was yet another surprise gathering on stage with the Neurotic Outsiders show. Ian, Billy and Matt Sorum gathered on stage with the Neurotic Outsiders to perform Bodies, Wild Flower, and Love Removal Machine. Man I wish I lived in Hollywood.
The Neurotic Outsiders topped off a recent string of Monday night gigs at Los Angeles' Viper Room with a bang this week by inviting Sporty Spice Mel C. and Cult members Billy Duffy and Ian Astbury on stage.

The Outsiders (comprised of Sex Pistols' guitarist Steve Jones, former Duran Duran bassist John Taylor, ex-Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan on guitar, and GN'R/Cult drummer Matt Sorum) had made the Viper Room a regular haunt on Monday nights and now plan to take a bit of a break.

Given the band's family tree, the appearance of Cult members Astbury and Duffy isn't much of a stretch. But few could have anticipated the moment when card-carrying Spice Girl Mel C. took the stage. Clad in a Spice Girls t-shirt, she assumed vocal duties for three songs, including the Sex Pistols' punk anthem Anarchy in the U.K.

Speaking with MTV News after the show, former Pistol Jones explained that he met Mel C. at a recent Alanis Morissette/Garbage concert and asked if she'd like to join the band for the show.

While special guests dotted the stage, the crowd was also chock full of Hollywood notables as Stephen Dorff ("Blade"), Lukas Haas ("Mars Attacks!"), Angie Everhart ("Bordello of Blood"), Lilith Fair-bound singer Bijou Phillips, and producer/mogul Rick Rubin came out for the show.

A Rock Set from former members of Duran Duran, the Sex Pistols, Guns N Roses and the Cult ... and the Spice Girls?

For three Mondays in April, the Neurotic Outsiders -- featuring Duran Duran's John Taylor, ex-Sex Pistol Steve Jones, Guns N Roses guitarist Duff McKagen and drummer Matt Sorum of the Cult and GNR -- has been packing the Viper Room on Sunset Strip, churning out their own tunes and covers of classic punk numbers including the Damned's New Rose and the Iggy Pop/Stooges song I Wanna be Your Dog.

It was at the band's first show April 6 that Cult members Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy jumped on stage for a three song set with the Ousiders. Two weeks later Astbury announced on stage "It's official. We're back! rock is back! Grow you hair and wear leather pants!" before stage diving into the crowd.

This Monday was the final show of the semi-super group, and along with the Cult members, the Neurotic Outsiders had a surprise guest join them -- Sporty Spice. Miss Spice wore black jeans, a red dog collar and a black Spice Girls tee shirt with the sleeves ripped off, revealing her taut and tattooed biceps as she launched into Billy Idols "White Wedding" with its refrain "It's a nice day to start again." Sporty does seem to be starting a new version of her career...and why not? Ginger is the UNICEF ambassador, Scary and Posh are now moms to be and Baby...well.. Sporty's next number was the ironic Pretty Vacant, followed by Anarchy in the UK -- a nice choice considering that the Spice Girls had expressed politics alligned with England's Conservative party in past press interviews.

"Give Sporty a hand," shouted Steve Jones as the crowd shot the finger to the stage. "She's got a lot of balls!" After loud whoops and applause, Astbury and Duffy played three songs and everybody went home.

Ian and Billy were at the Viper Room again last night (Monday, April 26). They performed the same 3 songs with the Neurotic Outsiders WildFlower, Love Removal Machine and Bodies). I must tell you that the wait to get inside was 3 hours unless you were on the guest list. But even after the Club 54 door policy and $20, the performance rocked!
