I just thought that I would drop you a line to tell you about
the latest show that the Holy Barbarians put on in Pasadena
Maryland. I drove up all the way from Virginia Beach, Virginia
to catch the show (about 3 1/2 hours one way) and was extremely
anxious the whole trip. Once my wife and I got there I was
totally stoked. The local radio station was talking up the
show on the radio and I was really psyched at this point. When
we got inside the club I couldn't believe that I was about to
see the Wolf Child this close. The last time I saw The Cult was
in February 1990 on the Sonic Temple tour in Atlanta, Ga. (The
Navy keeps me out at sea, unfortunately). Needless to say it
was very impersonal. Well here we were right up on the stage
totally into the show. The band opened with a little jazz
improv which was different but cool. They pretty much played
the complete Cream album except Opium and She.
The Witch was the only Cult song played. This was
disappointing being that I'm a fan of 10 years, but totally
understandable. Two cover songs were included:
Midnight Express by The Doors and Helter Skelter
ala The Beatles. Ian was incredible on stage as expected, he
even played guitar on Brother Fights. I really enjoyed
the show and am really glad I made the trip but there just
isn't the same power and magic that I felt with the Cult.
