What a show. Bloody hell, if there was one thing I never expected to see The Cult do (having just been too young in 85), it was start a set with Nirvana. Only The Sisters playing Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb can match such a moment (believe me, this is praise indeed from me). They could have played 90 minutes of techno-jazz after this, I'd have loved it. What they did do, however, was continue to hammer my senses with Love, The Witch, Black Sun (best song on the stonking self-titled album) and a lot of the usual hits and family favourites. It was good to see Craig Adams on bass, and very good to see that Astbury and Duffy had shaken off any lingering sign of RockStarTwatisms. They were basically a heads-down, kick ass rock band, playing their hearts out. Earth Mofo was a fantastic finale, and a very suitable end to a frantic, high octane gig.
