Universal Sur, Madrid, Spain
Opening bands: La Iguana, Mother Tongue
I attended this show, my first Cult show, just a few days after bought the
dissapointing new album. I didn't like it except for Star and
Gone. So I drove down to Leganes (a small southern Madrid city) with
a great expectation. The venue was pretty empty; as far as I remember I can
say we were not more than 500 people. Reasons? Two obvious ones; first of
all, the weird last cd released; people didnt like it much; and second
one was the venue, too far from Madrid, for us, young Spaniards without
a car. Definetely it wasnt an easy place to get to. Support band was
spaniards La Iguana (never heard about them again) and another unknown
band for me: Mother Tongue (dissappeared as well). The Cult show started
quite furious and I remember Ian with short hair, two stupid pigtails and
yellow "Bono style" tacky glasses. At least he was wearing his omnipresent
cowboy hat. People's reaction to new songs was pretty much cold; Spaniards
demonstrated that night that we love The Cult, but Dreamtime, Love, Electric,
Sonic Temple and Ceremony songs. I remember Ian exploding his mike (it
crashed with the 2nd guitarists mike stand) while doing his typical gesture
of a cowboy with a lasso. I also remeber I shake his hand during Lil'
Devil and that I catch a pick from Billy but not signed or so. The
encore was just two songs; Earth Mofo was one and Fire Woman
the last one. I enjoyed myself a lot but I was personally satisfied with
the old rock songs. As soon as I get home I'll try to get my ticket scanned
and send it to you. Congratulations for the website. Cheers
