After spending many monthes in Vancouver recording their new album, the
band decided that they should pay the citizens of Vancouver back for
their warm hospitality. The band decided it would put on a free
show in support of the local food bank. Entry was by donation of food
item or money, and it was on a first come, first served basis with
a lineup starting at 5:00 and doors opening at 7:30.
The Cult were the only band playing tonight. The Commodore Ballroom
is a small nightclub which holds about 1200 persons. By 5:30, the
lineup to get in was around the block. Some special guests were in
attendance, and among them was Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.
About 8:45 the band started playing. They opened with a blistering
rendition of Gone from their new album, and things got wild from there.
Allthough this was a nightclub, there was no liquor served tonight
so that the band could play for an all ages show. This was quite fine
by everyone there, because they all came to party with The Cult, and
not to drink beer. This venue is particularly unique in that the floor
is build on a flexable base of springs and old tires, so that once the
crowd gets jumping, the floor shifts 10 cm or more up or down! Makes
for a wild ride. They did two encores tonight, and completely
thrilled the capacity crowd. I've seen Cult four times, and this was by
far the best show I've seen.

OK. I was half way down the alley when the line dispersed. I clung to the
back door. I was standing there with a girl, and a really wierd short guy
wearing a huge stetson, Lennon glasses, and a scarf. We were all waiting
for the back door to open so we could plead our case. Anyways, we all talked
for about 5 minutes, and the wierd guy was somewhat concerned that the Cult
was my favourite band. Anyways, he banged on the door after about 5 minutes
of chat, and a bouncer came down. He took off his scarf and HOLY SHIT, its
Steven Tyler...if you will recall Aerosmith had a show the next day. Anyways,
the door shut after he went in, and the girl and I were just about to leave
when it reopened and the confused bouncer apologized and said "Mr. Tyler said
you were with him." COOL DUDE! and we went in, and the rest is history.
