The Cult were support for Guns n' Roses, who were well on their way to being a
spent force by 93, thus the day belonged to Astbury and Duffy, who incited a
massive and mental crowd reaction when they stepped onstage just as the heavens
opened. Billy looked mad with short hair and a goatee, but his guitar
blasted through the rain and nobody cared how wet they were. Lil' Devil,
Starchild, Love Removal Machine, all the usuals, but better than
ever. Louder than ever, which is of course pretty unusual for a support band.
Ian clearly loved every minute of it, but then the whole crowd from the stage
to the mixing desk were bouncing like animals (not even Metallica managed that
response, when they played the Bowl last year on The Big Day Out). It truly was
an incredible show. After which Axl's lot probably shouldn't have bothered. They
were alright, but...
