Opened for Metallica
The Cult was opening for Metallica and the stage was set up in the
middle of the field. I went down on a bus tour with most people
wanting to see Metallica. The Cult got a pretty luke warm reception
and at one point a fan threw a rock and hit Ian. He told the fan to
"Stop being a fucking asshole!" They played a really short set and
went straight from one song to the next. I taped this show on my
walkman too and can forward the setlist.

Mohawk Nation Radio interviewed Ian in the tour bus, after opening for
Metallica. Such a cool interview, with the muffled thumping of Metallica
in the background. Peace Dog, Ray Cook, Mohawk Nation Radio station
manager interviewed, I was station program director. We aired over Mohawk
Nation airwaves between USA & Canada, between Ottawa to Montreal, and
Massena/Potsdam/Canton/Plattsburgh upstate NY. The band felt opening for
Metallica would create new fans. We saw this very visible line of the
great unwashed black T shirt & chain wearing Metallica fans, standing
in the back with arms folded, waiting to see what Cult had to offer. In
front, all these Cult fans, also wearing black but a very eclectic, wide
open bunch, men and women, holding hands, smiling and laughing and excited.
Meanwhile the macho mostly male metallica fans stayed back, a strip of
grass seperating the groups, reminded me years later of the movie
Braveheart and scots standing in line waiting for battle. I think Cult
made fans, even if the metal heads wont admit it.
