Opening Band: Guns N' Roses
August 17, 1987 was a day I will never forget. We gathered for our rock and roll
communion with the Cult. Guns N' Roses were on the bill also, but who cared. It
was the Cult that we were waiting with baited breath to see, and they did not
disappoint. All the classics were there - from Revolution to Bonebag -
they were in fine form that night. When the curtain opened we couldn't help staring
at the bulge in Ian's trademark leather pants. In a moment of levity, he produced
a ripe banana and threw it into the crowd. As chunks of fresh banana flew through
the air, they ripped into the first chords of Bad Fun and never looked back.
I would have to say it was one of the best days of my life because I was surrounded
by so many of my best buds. Fourteen years on, we still lament about that day. No
matter how hard we try, we cannot produce a great day like that one again. It's gone,
but we've got great memories. I even have a few photos if you're interested, mostly
of Ian on stage and one of him emerging from a taxicab side entrance with his flame
of the moment, wonder where she is now.
