Opening Band: Billy Idol
The Cult opened for Billy Idol and played a very inspired set, with a mix of Electric and Love songs. Shorter
set than I would have liked, and they did not sound very good on this night, especially on Rain, as they didn't
have the best back-up vocals to make this song work at this point. However, the real story was what happened
later in the Billy Idol show. about 2/3 of the way through his set, playing Eyes Without a Face, disgruntled
fans were heckling him and throwing stuff at him from the pit. Idol stops his song and starts verbally abusing
fans in the first few rows, then walks to the back of the stage. We thought he was done, but then Idol sits
back down on his chair and resumes his song. The abuse just sealed his fate, though, as one "fan" promptly
lobbed a beer bottle which struck Idol half to the side of his head. Immediately the music ended, Idol said
a few choice words, turned around and bared his ass in a final defiant gesture and walked off, show ended. We
couldn't stop laughing.
