The Cult - Syria Mosque Ballroom, Apr 4/1986
Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Syria Mosque Ballroom
Opening Band: Divynls
Man, I will NEVER forget this night.

The Cult played in the much smaller 'ballroom' section of the Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I don't have a set list, but I remember they played 'Sanctuary' about midway through. I was sitting on the front corner of the stage by the bassist (Jamie?) and, in unison, every member of the audience started bowing down to the band, keeping in perfect rhythm with the song. Then towards the end of the set, Ian lifted the mic stand above his head only to be accidentally showered by pieces of the crumbling sound proofing tiles that fell from the low ceiling above. He then began to smash all remaining tiles as debris rained down across the stage and first few rows of the crowd. During those final few songs of the night, the air was filled with a delirious mixture of flailing hair, sweat, pumped fists and head-sized chunks of pock-marked, white ceiling tiles.

At any point over the past 25 years, when asked what was the best live show that I had ever attended, without hesitation, I recount the absolute glory that was April 4th, 1986.
