I had never seen The Cult before and was just getting into their
music when they returned to Toronto. They had played earlier in 1985
at The Concert Hall, and I'd heard bad things about that show.
This night at Massey Hall the band was amazing and it is this show
that made me a fan for life! "39 Steps", from Montreal opened the show
and were quite good. "39 Steps" appeared in "Hannah and Her Sisters"
a Woody Allen movie, playing their song 'Slip Into The Crowd'.
Then The Cult came on. Ian was dressed all in black with a wide
brimmed hat. The back-drop, was a huge indian face. They rocked
through most of the songs from "Love" and ended with Wild Thing.
At one point Ian leapt into the crowd, mic stand and all! The
bouncers quickly rushed in and pulled the mic stand out so fans
wouldn't get hurt. It took them a while to rescue Ian.
