Preston Guildhall, Preston, Lancashire, England
I had only recently left school when I was priviledged to witness the gig that
would change my life for ever. We had all been listening to She Sells
Sanctuary 24/7 over the summer holidays and everyone wanted a piece of
the action when the Cult brought Love to Preston. The girls just went on
about how fit Billy was with his platinum white quiff, paisley shirt,
leather trousers and ebony beads and all I wanted to do was play his Gretsch
guitar. They admired Ian's hair and I fell in love with his lyrics! It's
probably best not to say what they (all) wanted to do to Jamie!! We all
smoked cigarettes for hours in anticipation and burned a hole in the bedroom
carpet because the plastic cups just couldn't cope with all of the traffic!
When the time came to get to the Guildhall my VW beetle served us all well.
My first ever Cult T-shirt (now of 30!) was bought that night and a life long
bond was made. I was totally "loved" up when the Cult took to the stage that
night and will never forget the first time that I saw my friends doing their
thing. It was an awakening for me and something that has made me who I am today.
Listening to the chord changes on She Sells Sanctuary for the first time
that night made me understand and respect true brilliance. Come home soon, we
all miss you! Love Adrian.
