Headlining, Opening Band: Bangkok Five, Strays
After trekking from Tampa to Dallas to Corpus Christi (via Austin) to get to this mediocre
venue, I waited outside for a couple of hours and recorded part of the soundcheck: Sun King,
The Phoenix, and Wonderland, before the show. The venue was fairly small, but there was a
great vibe from the very loud crowd. The opening acts: The Strays, were not bad. On a scale
of one to ten I'd give them about a six. Then came another bone grating (not to mention LONG)
performance by Bangkok Five. Suckkok Five would be a better name for them. What an obnoxious,
talentless void. Their one hour set seemed more like about five hours. Even with the 3inch
platform shows he wears, the singer is still only about five foot five. I won't even start
talking about the skunk- like hair, or the hip- huggers and black panties he wore, or the
spitting and drooling etc. The cute little girl standing behind me loved them, I found them
to be thorougly annoying. The Cult came out not long after Bangkok Five mercifully left the
stage, and went into their more standard setlist. No surprises, but the band sounded great.
The songs from the Love album seemed to work best live, and provoked the best reaction fom
the audience. I grabbed another setlist and guitar pic, and recorded the show in the process.
The after show party was held nearby at a place called House of Rock. The only really weak
points in the Cult's set were the oh- so- tiresome Edie, and the moronic Peace Dog.
