Washington, DC, 9:30 Club

The Cult blew the lid off the 9:30 Club! You're right; this is one of the best tours in a long, long time. The band was tight. The new drummer really pounds the skins. The band seemed like they are having a new life...very loose and definitely enjoying themselves.

Hope they continue to tour. Glad to see they are headed your way. Oh and although not germane to a Cult show review...Go George Mason! What a weekend I had w/ the show and Mason pulling the greatest upset in NCAA history!

Had the recent fortune of seeing the cult play at a small club in Washington DC called the 9:30 club and what a show it was.needless to say they are back and sounding great.they played songs from all their albums from dreamtime to beyond good and evil. Ian`s voice and presence on stage is awesome and billy`s guitar playing is incredible. The 9:30 club is a small venue and in my opinion is the best way to see a band. There wasn`t a bad seat in the house and it really brings you up close and personal with them.ian and billy interacted with the audience the whole night.there is talk of a new album and there is a live cd available at each show. It is actually of the show you attend.prior to or after each show you can order a copy of that performance. The company offering it is called instantlive and you can go to their website and order other past shows including the cult`s opening night at the filmore all the way up to the DC show. Well worth the cost if you love the Cult as much as I do. They sounded great that night and now I have the sound of that night to go with my memories. They played about 16 songs and had two ancores.i know that billy and ian have had some differences in the past but i beleive with age,as ian kept hinting to,they have settled their differences and decided to come together to make great music. Ian and Billy are the only remaining orginal members but the back up guitarist is a long time fan and according to billy a slave to the band.everyone sound perfect and ian and billy say that their getting better with each show. Well I just wanted to share an experience with anyone who may be interested and if Ian and Billy ever read this thank you for a great show. See ya and thank for a great forum and website.

A mild friday night brought the cult to the nation's capitol last night. Billy and Ian looked like they really wanted to be there too. Ian came out sporting a scruffy look, unshaven with a black headband. Billy looked lean with shoulder length blond hair. Both men sported smiles throughout the 2 hr. show, which is contrary to several shows I have seen in the past.

I don't know if it's age, money, or the boys truly understanding that after 5 years of absence they can still sell out a U.S. tour, but they looked happy and healthy. All cylinders were firing as they jammed in front of a tour symbol backdrop of a rabid looking coyote jumping through two lightning bolts. Honestly, Billy has never sounded tighter and he brought a very capable rythm section. Especially the drummer who was lock step.

New songs were Wonderland, Gone, The Pheonix all of which I have never seen them play in the 8 shows I have seen.

The crowd's gotten older as one lady asked me to step aside so she could see. I laughed and stood right where the hell I was. Anyway, Ian mentioned stuff about soccer (which he is a huge fan) and some semi political insights.

I was skeptical that this was the "We need money tour", but it truly wasn't and they have kept me hoping for future tours.
