Minneapolis, Minnesota, First Avenue

All I can say is... awesome incredible un f-ing believeable!!!! I went to the show at First Ave last nite and got me freaking face rocked off. The sound problems mentioned by others at other venues were not present here at all! the sound was absolutely perfect. Ian didn't seem to want to grab too many of the high notes anymore, but when he did they were in the right spots. And Billy scratches right where you've got the itch. I sure would have loved to here The Phoenix rather than Electric Ocean and I missed Nirvana, but other than that it was amazing!!!!!!! These old geezers still know how to bring it!!!

I attended the Cult concert on March 15 at First Avenue in Minneapolis. The sound was terrific. In fact, the only mechanical issue involved Ian’s troubled mic stand. He even made a self-deprecating joke regarding the mini fit he threw over the stand, which was quickly replaced. Billy and Ian were both talkative and playful, and they took turns waving to fans who were in the corners of the second level of the club. Billy noted that one of the guitars he was using was about a year older than The Cult. Ian was especially animated while hyping War, saying repeatedly that the war is still going on. Billy asked the crowd to put their hands up if they were at their last concert at The Quest in 2001. Brownie points to Billy for remembering or at least taking the time to look up the venue. Ian counted 37 of us with our hands raised, but he was jokingly underestimating. New drummer John Tempesta (formerly of White Zombie/Rob Zombie) was sensational and appeared to have the time of his life while pounding the skins during the band’s biggest hits. Billy even commented that Tempesta might be the most talented drummer they’ve ever played with. My only regret is that they omitted The Saint (a personal favorite from the latest album) from the set list, but there’s no denying this was a fantastic show. Here’s hoping we don’t have to wait another five years for their next visit.

I have to agree with the other post about this concert, it sounded loud, clear and tight. The song that really hit me was Spiritwalker and I’m not sure why. It’s not one of my favorites but they rocked it. I waited around after to get Ian and Billy’s autographs and they were really cool dudes. They took time to sign everyone’s cds and records. Good stuff.

I have to say that it was a little surreal seeing the boyz again; a true blessing for any Cult fan. From the beginning to the end of the night myself and my buddy were right up front...in the mosh pit! What stood out for me was the fact that Ian and Billy were having a lot of fun, you could see it in them; and it showed. Ian's voice sounded great, and Billy's guitar was his usual self. Mr Tempest sound amazing on drums; a great adition for them. For me Four songs really stood out to me...Dreamtime, Electric Ocean, She Sells Sanctuary, and Brother Wolf; Sister Moon. For me it was nice to see some of their B-sides being played; it was a great show with night being capped off with myself catching a Billy Duffy pick, and finding part of Ian's Tamberine on the ground; I just happened to see it lying on the floor as I was leaving the mosh pit! I danced and sang all night...can't wait for the next show! I have to say this again, it was nice to see Ian and Billy smiling and laughing again! The future looks great! The drive down from Canada was well worth it!
