Tulsa, Oklahoma, Cain's

I was most surprised that The Cult was coming to my fair city, but with the historic Cain's Ballroom, we get many surprises and treats. The Cain's has seen everyone to the Sex Pistols to Willie Nelson and has a sound system that is beyond compare. The Cult started around 9 as I expected from reading the other reviews, but they did not experience any sound problems or glitches as others reported and played almost two full hours--the other sets I saw years ago were barely an hour.

The crowd responded well with a little help from Ian and Billy and the spring-loaded dance floor of the old Ballroom was bouncing. Spiritwalker was a great surprise and Electric Ocean was one of the highlights--even though it was never a hit. She Sells Sanctuary tore the house down with every soul in the building flying just a little bit.

A fan can never be truly satisfied with the set list, but this one came pretty close. I would have rather heard Wild Hearted Son over Wonderland, but that is only a minor complaint. Also, I have to disagree with the less than gushing reviews of the acoustic version of Edie (Ciao Baby) and Brother Wolf; Sister Moon--complete with electric stand-up bass. Both of these songs gave us a much needed break from the non-stop waves of a highly emotional performance. Billy is one of the unsung heroes of the rock guitar.

The guys seemed to be truly enjoying the performance and playing like rock and roll brothers. It was great to see many fathers and sons (like me and mine) at the show. It was like passing down a bit of music history. If they hadn't of worn us out with a truly exciting set, I think we could've managed another encore. Unfortunately, no one had a voice left in order to call for more. I don't think I could of handled another song, but I would've tried. If you are looking for a show to buy from Instant Live, I don't think you would be disappointed with this one.

Ian left us with his thanks and his love of the venue, promising to be back. I can only hope that it wasn't just empty end of the show farewell.
