The Cult opened for Aerosmith at the Myriad Convention Center in Oklahoma
City on Sunday, December 9th, 2001.
The Cult opened with
Rise and closed with
Love Removal Machine. In
between, they played a mixture of old and new tunes. After
American
Gothic, Ian proclaimed, "Yeah...we're a little different." Also from the
new album, they played
True Believers.
The crowd was most responsive to the hit
Fire Woman.
The Cult also played
Lil' Devil,
Wild Flower, and
Peace Dog from
ELECTRIC and
She Sells Sanctuary.
I'd read a lot of accounts about Ian being angry with the pro-Aerosmith
crowds, but he seemed mostly pleased with the audience in Oklahoma City. At
one point he singled out part of the crowd and proclaimed, "Look, it's the
fucking Spice Girls! Unbelievable!" The only time he seemed agitated was
toward the end of the set when he said, "Get off your asses and participate
in the
Love Removal Machine."
I enjoyed the set very much, just wish they would've had more time.
