The Cult - The Warfield, Aug 6/2001
San Francisco, California, The Warfield
Opening Band: Bird
I just cruised back from the show. I rode and drove a total of about eight hours to do it. I'm not sure if I have any more of these little trips left in me.

Anyhow, the show was great. The setlist was the same as it has been recently. I loved how the new songs came off live. They all sounded excellent. My Bridges Burn is a powerful live tune. The oldies were played great as usual. I like that they're playing In The Clouds in Drop D tuning.

The Warfield crowd was really rocking and the place was absolutely packed on the various levels of the lower floor and bar areas. The balcony seating appeared to be mostly full as well. The band seemed to enjoy the audience response quite a bit.

The bad news is Ian appeared to have fallen and injured his knee just prior to Love Removal Machine. He spoke of it to the crowd and had to have a stage tech walk the tambourine out to the stationary position he maintained for Love Removal Machine. When the show was over, a couple of guys helped him hobble off.

I hope it isn't serious, but it sure looked like it was hurting him a helluva lot. I'm not sure what that will do for the remaining shows, but I'll definitely keep my fingers crossed for the band and everyone who is still planning on seeing them out on the road.

The show absolutely rocked! Don't remember the exact set list but the guys were in top form. Ian was his usual high energy self, Billy was on and Matt was an animal on the kit. Ian was doing some acrobatic move when he smashed the shit out of his lower leg on the raised drum staging. He laid on the ground for the remainder of the song then hobbled to his feet. Very anticlimactic ending to a kick ass show.
