I came out from Detroit to see this show. My tickets said 7:00. So I did the math, thinking doors at 7, 'Bird 3', who have previously been referred to as just 'Bird', on at 7:30, Stabbing Westward on at 8:15, Monster Magnet, who I really wanted to see also, on shortly after 9, and then finally the Cult. So I arrived at 9 to find out that Monster Magnet was already finished. Kind of a bummer. Turns out the first band started at 6:30. Don't take anything for granted! Talking to people before the show, they said the sound in this place wasn't very good. As soon as the Cult came on I figured out that these people were wrong. The sound in the venue was good and the band sounded good too. They came out strong with Rise and played the same set they have been playing. The place wasn't sold out, this being their second show in Chicago. That was a little disappointing to hear. What's wrong with you Chicago! Anyway, the show. Every time I see them I am reminded that Ian has the best voice in Rock & Roll. Ian commented on how he liked this venue. At one point somebody threw what think were a couple of English soccer jerseys on stage. During Take The Power Ian got his mic cord tangled up and it stopped working. He looked a little pissed. I was afraid he might descend into a bad mood, but he seemed to get over it. On a few occasions he told the crowd to get into the show more. Now for my complaint. This was my twelfth Cult show, second time on this tour. I saw them in Grand Rapids a month ago, and I'm going to see them this week in Detroit. I saw the same set in Chicago that I saw in Grand Rapids and that I will see in Detroit. So guy's, it's a little hard for me to get excited when I know what your going to play before you play it. You want be to be excited, surprise me. Keep the shows fresh, change it up a little. How about a little spontaneity. You've got quite a repertoire to choose from. You sound good, but you're predictable.
Probably the best sounding show I've seen ever, any where. The fans were cool, no fights or those damn annoying mosh pits. She Sells Sanctuary was a near religious experience for me. Thanx for sharing your music with us Ian and Billy. Rock on.
