The Cult - Orbit Room, May 22/2001
Grand Rapids, Michigan, Orbit Room
To be in the same room with The Cult was a dream of mine. I wanted to see this band since 1986. I never wanted the concert to end. My only gipe, I wish I would have caught Ian's tamborine! Well, maybe next time.

What a great show. I do want to say that reading the previous E-Mails of the set list did spoil it for me as The Cult did stick to the same order. My friends and I drove 2 hours from Indiana and we were debating on how many people would be there. The Orbit room was fairly packed with at least 1,500 of the capacity 2,100. The opening band, sinomatic, did a nice job and the crowd seemed to appreciate them. We were able to get dead center about 20 ft from Ian and if we wanted too probably could have squirmed our way up further. What impressed me was that the songs they played sounded just like their CD's, but not too much so as it sounded like a recording. Ian had great stage presence and seemed to enjoy the crowd. I only have 2 extremely minor complaints, one was above mentioned set list, the other was that they didn't play quite long enough for my taste. At around 85 minutes there was no intermission and Ian had some, but not a whole lot of interaction to the crowd (he even joked this place was nice enough for the Spin Doctor's). Now as a huge Cult fan I may be biased but they put on one of the best strait up rock shows I have seen. The trick for all the Cult fans out these is to introduce them to the band and bring them to a concert to show them what a great band they are. Can't wait to see them in Chicago.
