Great show despite the fact that it seemed most people were only there to rub elbows with movie folk and not to enjoy a Cult show. The show was a private show for VH1 guests and Sundance ticket holders only, but I took my chances and drove out to Park City. Luckily while waiting in the cold I got a chance to meet Ian, Billy, Matt, and their road manager before the show. Their manager hooked me up with a pass and I was able to get into this party. As for the show...they rocked! Ian worked the crowd with his magic and the band was tight. They did play a shorter set, including one new tune Libertine, and needless to say hearing that song only made me even more anxious for the new album. The band, their crew, and everyone there associated with the Cult was awesome. The whole experience made it worth the freezing temperture and a 3 hour wait to get in.

CULT FOLLOWING AT SUNDANCE: The Cult played its first show as a Lava/Atlantic Records band at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, on Friday (January 28). The gig took place at Harry O's and featured the debut of a new song, Libertine, that will be on the band's new, still-untitled album, which the label hopes to release in time for summer. A tour is being planned to coincide with the release, and the album is close to completion, with producer Michael Beinhorn at the helm.

Singer Ian Astbury tells us about the decision to get the Cult back together: I finished a solo record and, after I did that, I sort of got my wild oats out of the way. Everything I wanted to do outside the Cult, I got it out of the way. And I thought, "What would I like to do now?" Go back to a rock-and-roll band? What's the point of starting a new rock-and-roll band when I can be in the Cult? Astbury was involved with his side project Holy Barbarians in the mid-Nineties; the group released the album Cream in 1996.

To make a long story short, It was the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah about four or five years ago when I found out that The Cult was playing at a party there in a place called Harry O's so my self and a friend thought we could get in and buy a ticket , so we presided to wait in line for about two and a half hours before the show in about 0 degree temps and winds blowing only to find out about ten feet from the door that you needed a ticket and they were not selling them. I was about to walk when some guy said I can't believe you have waited out here this whole time to find out this was a private party. I said "I didn't know". The guy pulled two tickets out of his pocket and handed them to me and my friend and said have a good time! I was shocked and offered to buy his drinks when he replied "This a party and everything is paid for". Once again my friend and I were in shock, "All the Free booze you want". We presided to get into the VH1 party and began our Partying about ten feet from the stage. The crowd was on fire and everyone there was having a great time and then The Cult came on stage only to excite an already rowdy audience into complete elation. This show was the first time they played a song called Libertine. I believe I spelled the song wrong, but it was one hell of a song and I have never heard it again! Any suggestions where to find it? This night was electric for about six or seven hundred people and will never be erased from my memory no matter how much alcohol I drink. Keep up the good work and Billy once again played this past year at another Sundance party with other members from various bands and It rocked in a Cult kind of way...too all a good day!
