San Diego, California, House Of Blues

Ian hasnt changed a bit. Belted the notes as if he was recording the Manor sessions all over again. Billy was a little uninspired in his rifts. Edie (Ciao Baby) was done acoustically which was fantastic. Ian seemed really happy to be back singing their great songs. Fire Woman sounded a little off key but everything else was awesome. House of Blues was packed to the gills with fans. Merchandise was a little over priced (as it always is).

Worth the ticket price especially if your used to seeing the Cult from bigger venues.

The last time I saw The Cult was during their short 2002 six date tour that ended in San Diego and the show rocked. This time around was no different. The guys sounded tight and the energy was great. They are really enjoying themselves on this tour. This is the first set change from what I gathered from some people who were at the Las Vegas show. They dropped New York City, Gone, and Rise. The biggest surprise was the inclusion of Brother Wolf; Sister Moon. Mike was on acoustic, Chris on a stand-up string bass, and Billy on his Gretch. This was quite a treat as it is one of my favorites and we had just talked with Billy in San Francisco about how we'd like to hear this live. I hope there are more surprises like this throughout the tour.

My husband finally came up with tickets to the show at 4:30 pm!! We got ready and headed for the House of Blues. He managed to get us a black wrist bands which allowed us to get in 20 minutes before the doors opened.

We staked out our spot right up front and there we stood for about 1-1/2 hours socializing with the fans around us. Everyone uses the CULTCENTRAL website and is familiar with Jon!! One fan was from Texas, another couple drove 1,000 miles from Mexico and another couple was from Washington. There were REAL fans at this show!! Everyone was really into it and the joint was jumpin'!

The Cult came on at about 9:15 pm and from the first few notes, I knew the show was going to ROCK!! It was one of the best shows I have EVER seen!! They pretty much sang anything and everything a Cult fan would want to hear. Billy was amazing, Ian was his usual self and the bass player was really good and I think a good addition to the band. The band sounded like they had been playing together for a long time.

My personal favorites were Wild Flower, Peace Dog, Rain, Spiritwalker, She Sells Sanctuary and The Phoenix. We would have liked to see Billy jam more -- this was the first time I have ever heard the Cult stick so close to the actual recording.

The Cult played for about 1 hour and 40 minutes. It was an hour and 40 mintues of total disconnect from reality!! It was AWESOME!!
