Post-Gazette Pavilion At Star Lake, Burgettstown, Pennsylvania
With gifts in hand (a Buddhist singing bowl for meditation, a beautiful book
about Buddhism, all in a cute bag with a picture of Buddha on the front), Tammy
and I headed out to the Post-Gazette Pavilion which was at least an hour from
Pittsburgh. We drove for what seemed like forever, but listening to the Cult
the entire way. The anticipation had been building the entire weekend by
talking about the Cult and watching Cult videos. Finally, we would get to
see and meet Ian. We had meet and greet passes and I had been wondering how
they were going to deal with that and we found out when we got there that it
was after the show. When we got our tickets we saw Allen and Gina in line!
They are two great Cult fans, Gina flew in from California and her bro, Allen
came from West VA. It was sooo cool to see them! Then we started walking around
the pavilion--it is set up so that there are stands set up before you actually
get to the seating. We weren't in there more than a few minutes when Tammy
spotted Ian strolling around with a couple of other guys (one of them the Doors
bassist). I think we were all in shock. Ian saw us because Tammy waved at him
and tried to run away. But then, we seemed to get into a huddle and try to
decide to go up to him or not. I figured it would be a good idea to give him
the presents then. So after we sort of had a pep talk from Tammy and Allen, we
all went up to Ian to say hi and I handed him the presents. He seemed so
pleased, he kept looking at me and thanking me. He opened my singing bowl and
said he had one from Tibet and didn't know how to use it!! Still, he was
appreciative and before I knew it he gave me such a sweet hug and a kiss
on the cheek...I think I was on another planet at this point. When asked
about Cult plans, Ian didn't seem too optimistic. He said we won't believe
what he's doing next...So I guess we'll have to wait and see. I believe he
said something about doing a song on the Terminator 3 soundtrack. Ian gave
us several Buddhist bows with the hands clasped before we left and thanked
us again for the gifts. I couldn't believe that we had just met Ian, it was
completely surreal. Then it was time to get to our seats. We got front row
seats with the meet and greet passes and also a Doors t-shirt. The concert
was great--Ian really makes the show! We had a great time!!! They seemed to
have done less songs because they didn't do Cops Talk or even The
End! They did Break On Through, Wild Child, When the
Music's Over, Strange Days, LA Woman, Moonlight
Drive, Alabama Song/Whiskey Bar, Light My Fire, Spanish
Caravan, Soul Kitchen. It seemed to end earlier than the Philly
show that I went to. Afterwards we waited for the meet and greet to start
and it ended up being pretty short. Ian came in and pointed to Tammy and I
and teasingly said, "trouble!" Then Robby, Ian and Ray sat down for pictures
and signings. We had gotten pictures before but we did again and he greeted
me with a "How are you darling?" how sweet, I just love that man. Then he
signed my t-shirt, "Thank you, love Ian A." We got a picture with him, how
nice it was with his arm around me. I couldn't help myself, I told him I
love him and he seemed touched. I got Robby and Ray to sign my shirt too...Ray
called me darling as well. It was a good time...Tammy and I had a crazy
time...It was unbelievable and beyond any expectations.
